It’s July and the sun should be shining, but it’s almost as if leaves could begin to leave their trees sometime soon already. Especially for those tired of the rain and grey clouds covering the sun, we have a sneak peak of some exciting trends, fresh from the runway, for you.
Polka dot patterns have influenced designers many times before. Dolce&Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Gucci and Stella McCartney all rose up to the challenge of creating renewing ways to wear this famous pattern. Marc Jacobs covered his models in dots from top to toe. Stalkings, hat, jacket, skirt; now that’s what we call ‘going all the way’.
High-contrast color blocks are one of the most outstanding looks for next autumn. Bright colors have been on the front page in the world of fashion for a while now and will be there to brighten out outfits for many more months to come. Gucci blew the crowd away with stunning, wavy robes, Prada evoked Mondrian with her plaid skirts and Balenciaga came up with a black and white over ultraviolet pants. Joyful colors for joyful days.
60ies revived is seen on the runway at Jean Paul Gaultier, Prada, Bottega Veneta, Jill Sander and Burberry Prorsum. Pencil skirts reaching up to the waist, orange blossoms and large checkered patterns were the result. A sensation for lovely ladies.
Suitable suits once again seemed to have been borrowed from the boys. Yves Saint Laurent showed a bear chest underneath his tuxedo’s while D&G and Lanvin gave a feminine touch to their suits with a layer of lace. Another style, spotted at Isabel Marant, Alexander Wang and Ann Demeulemeester, tended to show a more rockabilly style. Their outfits with leather details brought along a must have for powerful women.
Practical parka’s were seen in many acknowledged designer’s show. To name Hermes, Barbara Bui, Sonia Rykiel, Alexander Wang, Mulberry and Thakoon is only a beginning of the total designers who got the insight of making parka’s practical. With the extreme cold of last winter still freshly imprinted in everyone’s memory, designers got pressured in their creative thinking of finding a proper solution. And what a small amount of creative pressure can do! Practical yet luxury parka’s rained over the catwalk. Warmth and fabulous shapes combined perfectly to meet both wants of all those men and women who love to be warm and fashionable at the same time.
Match-up extravagance has been a word often heard in the fashion world lately. With an eye on the new collections of Alberta Ferreti, Mary Katrantzou and Dries van Noten, they have proven to be true artists. Utterly different choice of fabric, color, shape, relief and pattern were collaged together into a surprisingly wonderful harmony. Miu Miu, Armani, Gucci, Celine and Louis Vuitton expressed themselves in candy-colored furs, in all colors of the rainbow. There always seems to be an extravagant look every season and for next autumn/winter, this is it.
Even though the weather outside feels like autumn has already kicked off, we still need to have a little patience before we can all peak into the windows of the nicest shopping street of our country to admire the new autumn/winter 2011/2012 collections. But patience is golden and you’ll be the first to know.
