The Marilyn Monroe dress that flirted with a subway guest in The Seven Year Itch was sold for € 3.2 million ($4.6 million) at an auction of actress Debbie Reynolds' Hollywood memorabilia collection.
Debbie had been collecting Hollywood icon-pieces, hoping to one day open a museum. A museum turned out to be a lot of work and so the Hollywood treasures were auctioned at auction house Profiles in History. Monroe’s famous dress has been sold as “the most expensive dress ever”.
Other Hollywood pieces have also found a new owner. The blue dress from The Wizard of Oz was auctioned for € 780.483, The hat of Charlie Chaplin for € 93.3884 and the dress from Audrey Hepburn from My Fair Lady for € 2.5 million. What numbers. Let’s stick to the P.C. Hooftstraat for now...
