This week, those men in style will not be forgotten. The item of the week is one for every age, for every year, wearable on many occasions. It’s the pea coat. Also carries the name as pea jacket or pilot jacket.
A dot of history: the pea coat generally comes in navy-color and was, appropriately, worn by sailors of European and American navies. The double-breasted jacket is knitted with heavy wool and is characterised with large buttons.
To get to the origin of the jacket’s name, we’ll have to go all the way back to the Dutch 1720’s. The Dutch word for pea coat is pijjekker, in which pij referred to a certain type of cloth they used.
Tommy Hilfiger and Levi’s, among others, come with a solid version of this classic. A can’t-go-wrong item suited for every young man’s or gentlemen’s closet.
