Back in 1936 the one and only Salvatore Ferragamo created the now so common wedges. Ferragamo worked with a lot of unusual materials, like raffia and cork, later during wartime as recourses became limited. In 1938 Ferragamo came up with these famous rainbow wedges, one of the first made with cork. Ferragamo was a true footwear pioneer; designing some of the most extraordinary high-heeled shoes of the last century. Ferragmo also invented the “invisible sandal,” a wedge with clear plastic straps. 'I love feet,' said Ferragamo in his memoir, Shoemaker of Dreams. 'They talk to me...'
Wedges are the ideal heels for those in need of just that little bit more stability when wearing heels. Wedges can have a rather large surface for outstanding colors or prints because of the large heel, giving them the possibility to finish off an entire outfit. Wedges are fun, they’re arty, but sexy, intelligent and timeless. If you can ever get your hands on a pair of classic Ferragamo rainbow wedges, consider yourself lucky.
