Amy Winehouse her golden voice has given us the pleasure of powerful music. But with her outspoken personality, she searched ways to express herself in more creative ways. One of them being her extraordinary way of dressing. Inspired by no one else than Elizabeth Taylor, Amy took the 50ies, early 60ies chic-look and moulded it into a more extravagant, modern way. Her enormous beehive hairstyle seemed to be growing by the week, her tattoos kept on telling new telling stories of her life all over her body and her always present heavy black eye liner made her look like she had just stepped out of a Cleopatra movie. Capri pants, bright colored push-up bras, short sleeved fitted shirts, little puffball skirted mini dresses, towering stilettos and lots of Fred Perry wear: it all screams Amy Winehouse.
The Back to Black singer didn't think she was a style icon herself. She said: "A style, like, what? No, of course not! "I just dress like…I'm an old Jewish black man - I just dress like it's still the '50s".
Appreciated for this humble outlook, we give her more credit for the sense of fashion she's leaving behind. She resembled one of those 1960s Italian bad girls who hopped on the back of Vespa bikes, wearing a sleeveless shirt, knotted to show the belly bottom, holding on to leather jacketed James Dean types. Amy was different to the other girl singers. Amy was fierce. She had a voice that guaranteed getting goosebumps. She had charisma!
